Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a stable new compound exhibiting excellent antibacterial activity and useful as an antibacterial agent for peroral administration.
CONSTITUTION: This derivative is a crystalline compound of (1R,5S,6S)-2[(4R)-2- oxo-4-pyrrolidinylthio]-6-[ (1R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1-methyl-1-carbapen-2-em-3- carboxylic acid pivaloyloxymethyl ester expressed by the formula and exhibiting main peaks at spacings of 18.41, 9.21, 6.24, 5.28, 5.04 and 4.72A by powder X-ray diffraction. The derivative can be produced by reacting (1R, 5S, 6S)-2-[(4R)-2- oxo-4-pyrrolidinylthio]-6-[(1R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1-methyl-1 carbapen-2-em-3- carboxylic acid sodium salt with pivaloyloxymethyl iodide, diluting the reaction liquid with ethyl acetate, washing with water, concentrating the product, dissolving the concentration residue with an ethanol/dichloromethane mixture and precipitating the crystal from the solution.
