To provide a current lead system and a method for protecting a current lead that can improve the reliability of the current lead using a superconductor by easily preventing quenching of the current lead.
The current lead system 10 has a high temperature side electrode 11; a low temperature side electrode 12; a current lead group 13 for electrically connecting the high temperature side electrode 11 to the low temperature side electrode 12; a first coil 21 and a second coil 22 disposed near the current lead group 13; a lead wire 23, a power supply 24 and another power supply 25 connected to the first coil 21; an ammeter 26 connected to the second coil 22; and a switching part group 30. If only a first switching part 31 of the switching part group 30 is short-circuited when the experience magnetic field of the current lead group 13 changes with time, the time change of the experience magnetic field of the current lead group 13 is reduced by the induction magnetic field generated from the first coil 21.
