Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cut a plastic optical fiber(POF) without worsening a transmission characteristic thereof.
SOLUTION: A feed screw frame 17e is laid in parallel to an X axis in one end of a base 16 in a POF cutter 17 via a column 17d, and is driven by a feed motor 17f to move a cutter handle 15 guided by a feed screw frame side-panel 6 in parallel to the X axis via a lead screw 17g. A cutter blade 2 equipped to the cutter handle 15 is connected to a high-frequency machine vibration excitator 4 to ultrasonically vibrate the POF contacting with a blade tip and to heat and soften it. A connector 11 fitted with an optical fiber cable 1a with a cutting marginal length is mounted on a connector plug attaching table 17a of the cutter 17, an edge of the cutter blade 2 is moved along a +X direction to contact with a cut part of the POF, and cuts the POF into a prescribed length (thickness) of cut piece while heating and softening the POF. Those operations are repeated plurally, and the thickness of the cut piece is thinned guradually with accompaniment to the number of cutting, so as to make a left POF cut face in a connector side an excellent face.
