In the cutting method, shape generation work is performed on the workpiece 1 by relatively moving and rotating the workpiece 1 and a cutting tool 4 around the axis while giving a predetermined depth of cut to the workpiece 1 by the cutting tool 4. The workpiece 1 and the cutting tool 4 are finely oscillated in the direction orthogonal to the relative cutting direction along the machined surface of the workpiece 1 in addition to the operation relatively moving and rotating the workpiece 1 and the cutting tool 4 around the axis.
