Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly practical and epoch-making cutting method of a wheel for railway use, wherein different types of tools (tips) are used respectively on a tread and a flange surface, the tread is cut deep and the flange surface is cut shallowly, proper cutting can be done according to abrasion conditions, cut chips are resistant to connection on both the tread and the flange surface so that good conditions of the cut chips can be obtained, the method is resistant to the occurrence of troubles due to the cut chips, and cutting efficiency is improved.
SOLUTION: Instead of cutting from the tread 1 to the flange surface 2 using one kind of cutting tool in a single pass, the tread 1 is cut in a predetermined cut depth by using an edge strengthened tip 3 with such characteristics that cutting edge strength is large but the cut chips are difficult to cut if the cutting is shallow. Cutting is done from the middle of the tread 1 to the flange surface 2 in a shallower depth than that by the tip 3 by using a round tip 4 with such characteristics that cutting edge strength is lower than the tip 3 but the cut chips are easy to cut.
