To carry out the cutting process of the mica part of a commutator by a simple structure and at a high accuracy.
In this cutting part positioning method of an undercut machine 2, the section form of the surface of an object commutator 1 is measured by a laser two-dimensional measuring function 3 which is composed to scan the laser beam in the direction orthogonal to the commutator 1 to be measured, as well as the upper part of the commutator 1 installed to the undercut machine 2 is composed movable, and the cutting is carried out according to the above measured data. A cutting control device of the undercut machine 2 by applying this method is composed to furnish the laser two-dimensional measuring function 3 which is composed to scan the laser beam in the direction orthogonal to the commutator 1 to be measured; and a data processing function to calculate the cutting form from the measured data measured by the laser two-dimensional measuring function 3, and the measuring position, the measuring direction, and the like of the laser two-dimensional measuring function 3; as well as the upper part of the commutator 1 is composed movable.
