Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool having the wear resistance of a cutting edge more improved than heretofore while exerting performance comparable to a conventional level in cutting easiness in the cutting tool comprising a grip 12 enabling a grip operation and a cutting edge 14 which is at least a metal and can cut a material to be cut in response to the operation of the grip.SOLUTION: A cutting tool is provided with a modified surface layer 15 which is composed by including a foamed metal 16 such as a nickel foam and a resin 17 filled in the interstice of the foamed metal on the surface of the tip T of at least a cutting edge of the tool. The modified surface layer is formed, for example, through a process of forming the nickel foam by an electroless nickel plating method and a process of impregnating a portion in which the nickel foam is formed with a liquid resin and after that solidifying the liquid resin.
