Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a novel cyanophenyl isoalkylbenzoate ester compound giving large anisotropy to the dielectric constant of a liquid crystal material when mixed with the nematic liquid crystal material, and useful as an electro- optical display material.
CONSTITUTION: A cyanophenyl isoalkylbenzoate ester compound of the formula (R is isopropyl, isobutyl), e.g. 4-isopropylbenzoic acid 4'-cyanophenyl ester. The compound of formula I is obtained e.g. by esterifying a 4-isoalkylbenzoic acid with 4-cyanophenol.
