Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject oligomer for providing a high mol.wt. poly(aryl ether) with excellent high temp. stability and solvent resistance by bringing an arom. diol, an activated aryl dihalide and a dinitro compd. into contact with each other in the presence of a base.

CONSTITUTION: This cyclic poly(aryl ether) oligomer of formula (D) (wherein Y is -O-, -S-; Ar is an arom. divalent group with an electron-withdrawing group; (n) is 1-20) is obtained by bringing an arom. diol (B) into contact with an activated aryl dihalide or dinitro compd. (C) in the presence of a base in a reaction medium.
