Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer excellent in impact strength, toughness, etc., by copolymerizing at least two monomers selected from the group consisting of an α-olefin, a cycloolefin, and a diene compd. in the presence of a specific cycloolefin random copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: A 2C or higher α-olefin and a cycloolefin of formula I or II (wherein R1 to R19 Ra, and Rb are each H, halogen, a hydrocarbon group, etc.) are copolymerized to give a cycloolefin random copolymer having a glass transition temperature by DSC of 50°C or higher and an intrinsic viscosity in decalin at 135°C of 0.1-5dl/g. At least two monomers selected from the group consisting of the 2C or higher α-olefin, the cycloolefin of formula I or II, and a diene compd. are copolymerized in the presence of the random copolymer to give a hydrocarbon elastomer having a glass transition temperature of 10°C or lower and a content of the random copolymer of 50-99wt.%.
