PURPOSE: To obtain a new cyclopentadiene compound being an electron- transporting acceptor compound and useful for electrophoto-graphic photoreceptor, etc., having high sensitivity and good durability.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [R1 and R4 are each H, a (substituted) alkyl, a (substituted)aromatic, a (substituted)heterocycle, a (substituted) alkoxycarbonyl, a (substituted)carbamoyl, etc.; R2 and R3 are each H, a (substituted)alkyl, a (substituted)aromatic or a (substituted)heterocycle; X is 0, C(A)(B)(A and B are each H, a halogen, cyano, etc.) or N-R5 (R5 is an alkyl, cyano, an aromatic, etc.), e.g. a compound of formula II. Furthermore, the compound of formula I is obtained by reacting, e.g. a ketone compound of formula III with a dione compound of formula IV in the presence of a basic catalyst.
