Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:A cyclopropanecarboxylic acid ester expressed by formula I (X is O, ethylendioxy or trimethylenedioxy; R is lower alkyl).

EXAMPLE: Ethyl 2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-oxopropyl)cyclopropane-1-carboxylic ethyl ester.

USE: A synthetic intermediate for preparing a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide.

PROCESS: A compound expressed by formula II (X' is ethylenedioxy or trimethylenedioxy) is reacted with a diazoacetate expressed by the formula N2CHCOOR in an inert solvent or under solventless conditions, in the presence of metallic copper and/or a copper compound, under heating, to prepare a novel compound expressed by formula III. The resultant compound is then deacetalized with an acid, e.g. hydrochloric or p-toluenesulfonic acid, in a solvent, to give the compound expressed by formula I.
