An hand-held four-cycle engine E has an engine body 1 to which a carbureter 2, exhaust muffler 3 and fuel tank 5 area attached. The body 1 is composed of a cylinder block 6 on the outer circumference of which a plurality of cooling fins 10 are formed and a crank case 7. The crank case 7 is composed of a pair of upper and lower case halves 7a, 7b mutually connected with bolts 11. On upper and lower journal support walls 14, 15 bolt holes 18 passing through the crank case vertically is bored, and the crank case 7 is connected to a lower end surface of the cylinder block 6 with a stud bolt 19 passing through these bolt holes 18.
