To provide a cylinder block of an internal combustion engine which can suppress deformation of a cylinder more effectively than before.
The cylinder block 1A of an internal combustion engine has a cylinder-bore wall 3 constituting a plurality of cylinders 2, an outer wall 4, and a water-jacket groove 6. The outer wall 4 is provided in the circumference of the cylinder-bore wall 3, and the water-jacket groove 6 is provided to the space between the cylinder-bore wall 3 and the outer wall 4 along the cylinder-bore wall 3. A plurality of bolt holes 5 into each of which a head bolt is screwed are bored on the outer wall 4, and the water-jacket groove 6 is opened on the top-deck surface 1a throughout its length in the part of the outer periphery of the cylinder-bore wall 3 to which the water-jacket groove 6 is provided. A connection part 3a connecting the cylinder-bore wall 3 to the outer wall 4 integrally is provided to the remaining part. The water-jacket groove 6 is formed so that, at the end 6a adjacent to the connection 3a, the width W1 of the top 6b which is close to the top-deck surface 1a becomes larger than the width W2 of the lower part 6c which is apart from the top-deck surface 1a.
