To provide a damage-recoverable composite material enabling the recovery of cracks and damages caused by impact, fatigue, or the like, as well as the recovery of deformation caused by external stress, and provide its use.
This damage-recoverable composite material is composed of a shape-memory resin 2 containing a heat-meltable material 1 in the resin. The shape-memory resin 2 is a thermosetting resin such as a crosslinked norbornene polymer and the heat-meltable material 1 is a thermoplastic resin. When the damage-recoverable composite material is deformed or damaged by external force, the material is heated above the shape-recovery temperature of the shape-memory resin 2 and above the melting temperature of the heat- meltable material 1 to restore the damage-recoverable composite material to the original form and repair the damage such as breakage and crack.
