To provide a damping method which can effectively damp the shaking that is caused by the disturbance having the frequency that is different from the natural frequency of a control object.
A virtual control object model which has the natural frequency at the frequency band of disturbance is assumed in place of an actual control object 1 in order to damp the shaking that is caused by the disturbance having the frequency different from the natural frequency of the object 1. Then the control gain calculated from the vibration characteristic of the virtual control object model is applied to a controller 3 to perform the damping control of the object 1. In such a constitution, the exciting part of an actuator 4 of an active damping device is set to effectively work on the shaking of the frequency and of disturbance. Thus, the effective damping force is generate against the disturbance.
