PURPOSE: To operate a system without reconstituting the system by checking an adapter during a power source connection self-test for deciding whether or not the adapter is added, removed, or moved since the previous system constitution, enabling adapters except the changed adapter, and turning this system into an operating state.
CONSTITUTION: This system is provided with a mechanism which records which slot includes an extended card or an adapter having an ID correctly corresponding to an ID in a POS table 19, and which slot generates an ID miss match error is identified. Therefore, an SLOT FLAG 101 of a RAM 14 is used. When the extended card which is not matched with the ID stored in the table 19 is provided, a bit position corresponding to the defective slot is set in the SLOT FLAG 101. When the card in which the card ID miss match error is generated is found, the slots except a video slot are disabled.
