Abstract:
PURPOSE: To increase a tape recording capacity by making the distance between a data recording start position and the leading end of tape on tracks at the center area in the width direction of a magnetic tape shorter than the distance of the same on the tracks at the area near the edge of tape.
CONSTITUTION: The data are recorded in such a manner that the magnetic tape is run from one end toward another end. The distance L1 between a hole 20 of the data recording start position BOT and the leading and P1 of magnetic tape 7 on the tracks T0, T8, T24, T18, T16, T22, T28 arranged at the center area W1 in the width direction of this tape 7 is made shorter than the distance L2 from the hole 20 of BOT on the tracks T4, T14, T26, T20, T12, T6, T2 arranged at the area W2 near the edge 22 of tape 7. Since the damage and deformation of tape are generated not so much on the tracks at the center area W1 of tape even in the area near the tape starting point having low tension, the recording and reproducing are performed in the good contact state with the magnetic head and no error.
