Abstract:

To provide a data replication system and method for copying an image of a specific generation from a storage device that stores images of multiple generations to a remote storage device.SOLUTION: A system includes: a first storage device having a first data protection area 14 for storing backup images of multiple generations from a first volume 12 in an area inaccessible to external devices; and a second storage device connected to the first storage device. The first storage device creates a second volume 16 which contains a backup image of a specific generation among multiple generations of backup images 14a-14c stored in the first data protection area. The second storage device executes the steps of: creating a third volume 22 for storing copy data and a virtual volume 21 that is peripherally mapped to the second volume; copying the data in a virtual volume and a third volume; and storing the backup image of the specific generation being stored in the second volume in the third volume.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
