PURPOSE: To easily retrieve necessary data in a short time by providing a speech signal storage circuit for registration and a speech signal storage circuit for retrieval, and retrieving data by voice.

CONSTITUTION: When the data is retrieved, the contents of the speech signal storage circuit 7 for retrieval which stores a speech signal for the retrieval and contents of the speech signal storage circuit 6 for registration which stores a speech signal pairing with the data of character information are compared by a speech signal comparing circuit 9. When the comparison result indicates a coincidence, the contents of the character information storage circuit 10 at the current address are retrieved data and inputted to a character signal input terminal 11, and the retrieved data is converted by a character information display circuit 13 into a display signal, which is outputted to a display output terminal 14. A display device which uses liquid crystal, etc., is connected to this display output terminal and the retrieved data is displayed.
