To provide a data transfer apparatus in which overhead during data transfer is reduced and speeding up can be easily realized.
The data transfer apparatus comprises a receive-only buffer 5, a transmit-only buffer 6, a transmit/receive buffer 7, a receive filter 8, and a transmit filter 9. A data storage location is selected by the receive filter 8 according to the received packet. A packet to be returned in response to the data transmit packet at the implementation of a READ command is detected by the receive filter 8, and other packets than that are stored in the receive-only buffer 5. A data request packet at a WRITE command is transmitted from the transmit-only buffer, and a data reception packet corresponding thereto is stored in the transmit/receive buffer 7 by the receive filter, and other reception packets than that being stored in the receive-only buffer 5. The transmit/receive buffer 7 has a size to accommodate two packets used for data transmission/reception.
