When a client 2 sets a data information flag OFF to request a server 1 to transfer data, the server 1 generates fixed-length data from code data and media management information and transfers it to the client 2. Further, when the client 2 sets the data information ON to request the server 1 to transfer data, the server 1 generates variable-length data from the code data, media management information and media information and transfers it to the client 2. Further, the media information may be stored as BLOB data in a data base 1. Further, this system is applicable to a stand-alone system. Further, the said data information flag is used to enable use in combination with another server 5 such as a moving picture server.
