To decompose with less energy consumption a chlorine-containing chlorofluorocarbon which affects global warming and to recover by a simple method a fluoroether formed as a by-product at the time of decomposition.
HCFC-22, a chlorine-containing chlorofluorpcarbon, is decomposed into sodium chloride and a fluoroether by feeding it into a sodium methoxide solution at ordinary temperature under ordinary pressure. Thus-formed fluoroether existing in a gas phase together with methanol is separated from methanol by a gas-absorption method using distilled water as a solvent. Thus, the present invention has established a process permitting successive operations of decomposition of the chlorine-containing chlorofluorocarbon and purification of the fluoroether.
