To hold the projecting height in a reduced state in a complete explosion rotation area of an engine, by relatively largely securing the projecting height of a decompression cam from a base surface of a valve system cam in a starting rotation area of the engine, in a decompression device of the engine.
In this decompression device, a valve system camshaft 22 is provided with a decompression camshaft 42 rotatable between an operation position O for opening engine valves 10 and 11 a little in a compression stroke by projecting the decompression cam 42a on the base surface of the valve system cam 22a and a releasing position N for allowing valve closing of the engine valves 10 and 11 by retreating the decompression cam 42a, and this decompression camshaft 42 is connected with a centrifugal mechanism 43 for holding the decompression camshaft 42 in the operation position O in the starting rotation area and rotating the decompression camshaft 42 in the releasing position N in an ordinary operation area. The centrifugal mechanism 43 is constituted so as to hold the decompression camshaft 42 in an intermediate position M for reducing the projecting height of the decompression cam 42a more than the projecting height in the operation position O in the complete explosion rotation area between the starting rotation area and the ordinary operation area.
