PURPOSE: To efficiently achieve a decorative lining work which is called 'GESU-BARI' in Japanese by applying a sheet-like plate material to the upper surface of the decorative cloth sucked and held to a large number of suction means and moving the suction means toward the center to apply required gathers to the decorative cloth and bonding a thin plate-like material coated with an adhesive to the decorative cloth under pressure.

CONSTITUTION: Decorative cloth 28 is placed on the upper surface of the group of suction blocks 38 and sucking action is applied to suction cups 42 to suck and hold the periphery of the end edge part of the decorative cloth 28. A sheet-like plate material 56 is applied to the decorative cloth 28 and the periphery of the end edge part of the decorative cloth 28 is restricted by the suction blocks 38 and the sheet-like plate material 56. The air cylinders for moving the respective suction blocks 38 are energized to allow a large number of the suction blocks 38 to advance and move toward the center of an upper frame member 14 all at once. By this method, gathers are formed to the decorative cloth 28 positioned between the adjacent suction blocks 38. Pasteboard 30 is mounted on the holding member 70 of a press bonding plate 66 and an adhesive is applied to the surface of the pasteboard 30. The press bonding plate 66 is revolved to press the pasteboard 30 to the decorative cloth 28 and the decorative cloth 28 having gathers formed thereto is bonded to the surface of the pasteboard 30.
