A main shaft is fed up to a deep hole machining starting position, while injecting the coolant from an external standard pressure coolant supply circuit 25 toward a workpiece W. After starting the deep hole machining, the external standard coolant supply circuit 25 is closed, a main shaft standard pressure coolant supply circuit 23 is opened, and the deep hole is machined up to a prescribed intermediate depth, while supplying the coolant. At a point of time when the machining is performed up to the intermediate depth, the main shaft standard pressure coolant supply circuit 23 is closed, a high pressure coolant supply circuit 30 is opened, and the deep hole is machined up to a final depth, while supplying coolant of high pressure.
