PURPOSE: To keep a deflection magnetic field uniform below a specified value and extend the storage life of a charged particle beam by arranging magnetic field correction coils on magnetic pole surfaces of iron cores located opposite to each other in a manner that the correction coils are located on both sides of a vacuum chamber.
CONSTITUTION: Magnetic field correction coils 1 are placed on both sides of a vacuum chamber 3 for storing a charged particle beam 6 in a gap between magnetic poles 10a, 10b arranged inside an iron core 8 of a sectorial or semicircular shape. The upper and lower magnetic field correction coils 1a, 1b of the coil 1 are formed to have cross-sectional shapes symmetrical with respect to the orbit surface of the charged particle beam 6. With this constitution, a magnetic field is produced to offset nonuniform magnetic field of deflection magnetic field caused with a particle accelerating deflection magnet to keep the deflection magnetic field uniform below a specified value, reduce instability of the charged particle beam at the time of storing the charged particle beam and extend the storage life of the charged particle beam.
