Title:
DEHYDRATING AND SINTERING FURNACE FOR OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3301146
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the wear of the heating element and heatresistant insulating material by oxidation at low temp. by arranging an annular body furnished with an oxidation-worn material in a furnace body below an annular heater surrounding a furnace core tube piercing the hollow furnace body.
CONSTITUTION: An upper lid 1a is provided at the upper end of a hollow furnace body 1 and a lower lid 1b at the lower end, and a furnace core tube 2 piercing the center of the furnace body 1, passed vertically through an optical fiber porous preform and used for dehydrating the preform, adding a refractive index control element and sintering the preform is supported by the upper lid 1a. An annular heater 3 is furnished around the tube 2, and a heat-resistant insulating material 5 is filled between the tube 2 and the material 5. Further, a part or the whole of an annular body formed with an oxidation-worn material 6 is provided between the tube 2 and the material 5.
