Abstract:
PURPOSE: To dewater a water-containing cellulose ether obtained by washing and filtering a cellulose ether easily at good efficiency by treating the ether with a V-shaped disc press having a pair of screens of specified structures. CONSTITUTION: A cellulose ether (e.g. hydroxyethylcellulose) obtained by etherifying cellulose is washed and filtered to form a water-containing cellulose ether. This ether is fed into a V-shaped disc press 1 having a pair of disc-type screens 2a and 2b which have small holes for passing water and the clearance between which decreases according to rotation of the screens. The ether is pressed with a pair of the screens 2a and 2b, and the water is passed through screens 2a and 2b and recovered. The ether dewatered by pressing and rotating with screens 2a and 2b is discharged and recovered.
