In the demodulation method, a variable delay circuit 312 delays a carrier signal SC having a prescribed frequency, and outputs a modulated signal SESM. A delay setting unit 314 sets a delay period for the variable delay circuit 312 according to a data signal SBB to be modulated. The delay setting unit 314 assigns each symbol A in the data signal SBB to any one of positive edges and negative edges in the carrier signal SC, and sets a delay period for the variable delay circuit 312 at the timing at which a positive edge in the carrier signal SC passes through the variable delay circuit 312, according to the symbol value A in the data signal SBB assigned to the positive edge. Furthermore, the delay setting unit 314 sets a delay period for the variable delay circuit 312 at the timing at which a negative edge in the carrier signal SC passes through the variable delay circuit 312, according to the symbol value in the data signal SBB assigned to the negative edge.
