Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily execute the density adjustment of a picture even after white/ black binarization processing by adding/subtracting an extracted binarized intermediate density signal to/from a binarized white/black level signal so as to change a picture element number.
CONSTITUTION: White/black level binarization processing is applied to a picture signal S by using slice levels SLH, SLL to generate picture signals A, B. Moreover, a picture signal C corresponding to an intermediate density present between the levels SLH and SLL is generated while being binarized in addition to the signals A, B. Then priorities C1-C6 implementing an addition processing are imparted to the signal C and the result is stored in a memory as additional data. When the density is adjusted actually for print-out, the signal A is outputted as it is and when the density is desired to increase it by one stage, the signal A is outputted while it is added with a C1 portion of the signal C. Similarly, portions C2, C3... are added to the signal A similarly. Thus, the density is adjusted in an excellent state matched with the gradation of an original picture.
