PURPOSE: To obtain a deodorant which has a sufficient deodorizing effect for a wide range of malodorous materials, has an excellent sustaining property at about ordinary temp. (0 to 50°C), is free from secondary pollution, is easy to handle and is usable in general household.

CONSTITUTION: This deodorant is formed by combining the calcined matter of a mixture composed of a binder contg. Mg, Si and Al and having MgO:SiO2: Al2O3=2:5:2 corresponding to the theoretical compsn. of cordierite in terms of an oxide of the weight ratios of these elements and a metal oxide catalyst and a water absorptive material by dispersing, coating, etc.
