To provide a garbage deodorizing method which exhibits high safety, employs a composition to be easily produced, suppresses putrefaction of the garbage, also suppresses occurrence of malodor attendant upon the putrefaction simply, has less influence on environmental pollution, does not hinder effective utilization of the garbage as compost and is excellent from a standpoint of green chemistry.
In a method for adding the composition containing a nitrate to the garbage, the garbage before putrefaction is preferably used and the composition containing the nitrate is added to the garbage by spraying a solution such as an aqueous solution containing the nitrate to the garbage. The nitrate contained in the composition to be used is one kind or ≥2 kinds chosen from a group consisting of calcium nitrate, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate and magnesium nitrate. The composition containing ≥30 wt% nitrate is preferably added to the garbage so that the nitrate content stays in a range of 0.01 to 5 wt%.
