Abstract:

To provide a descending device allowing users, especially infants, the elderly and the disabled to easily evacuate, even in such a state that walking is difficult, at the emergency such as a fire when it takes time for the people to move by themselves though emergency stairs, or the like are used for evacuating from a height.

The descending device includes a circulating rotator composed of a roller chain and upper and lower sprockets 1a and having a handrail 1e. The device descends with the weight of occupants' own bodies applied to the handrail 1e as the occupants put their hands and feet on the handrail 1e. The descending device also includes a speed controller so that the device can descend at constant speed if the number of occupants in the device changes. A manual brake handle 3d is mounted in a boarding gate, so that the already moving descending device can be stopped for the occupants to safely transfer to the handrail 1e, and the descending device can be stopped for the occupants to get off the device. Especially if the occupants are weak, it is indispensable to transfer after the descending device is stopped. The whole device is enclosed with an ellipsoidal cylinder fence so that anyone can safely evacuate, and so that such disasters as falling when boarding can be prevented and the acrophobia can be resolved.
