PURPOSE: To provide a rubber composition useful for producing tire treads or the like, which contains a non-polar rubber such as natural rubber, a polar rubber such as polychloroprene, a phenolic resin and conventional additives, and has high storage elastic modulus at a relatively low temp. and low storage elastic modulus at a high temp.
CONSTITUTION: The objective rubber composition is obtained by incorporating (A) at least one non-polar rubber such as a natural rubber, a styrene-butadiene rubber, a polybutadiene rubber and a polyisoprene rubber with (B) at least one polar rubber such as a polychloroprene, a chlorosulfonated polyethylene and a nitrile rubber, (C) a phenolic resin such as novolak obtained by condensation of a non-self-curable phenol or an alkyl-substituted monovalent or polyvalent phenol such as nonylphenol or diphenylol propane with formamide and/or butyraldehyde, and (D) conventional additives such as a filler, a vulcanizing agent, an accelerator, an activating agent, a deterioration inhibitor, an auxiliary processing agent and a plasticizer.
