To provide a design forming material for simply and easily forming a design originating from a protrusion and recess part in an arbitrary shape on a surface of an inorganic product.
The method for forming a design comprises the steps of bringing a design forming material containing a water absorbing resin and an alkali water soluble resin as main components into contact with an uncured hydraulic composition, removing it after curing to form the design on the cured material of the composition. More specifically, the method comprises the steps of bringing the design forming material constituted by containing the water absorbing resin 1 and the alkali water soluble resin 2 as main components into contact with the composition, then placing the composition 3, and curing it. Thus, the resin 1 is swelled, and the composition 3 is urged by the swelled resin 4. After the curing, a mineral product 6 having a design formed on the surface is released from a mold and is obtained.
