Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce an organic compound having a reduced sulfur content and a sulphur-free organic compound from mercapto and/or disulphide compounds by hydrogenolytic elimination of hydrogen sulphide.
CONSTITUTION: The hydrogenolytic treatment of organic mercapto and/or disulphide compounds is carried out in the presence of an organic solvent, using an aqueous, non-oxidizing, strong acid and elemental iron, aluminum and/or zinc in the presence of a catalytic amount of nickel and/or cobalt.
