Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable automated detection of pith positions.SOLUTION: A detection method of the present invention includes; a photographing step of capturing an image of a cut surface of a raw wood, or butt-end surface; an extraction step of extracting a plurality of annual rings from the image of the butt-end surface captured in the photographing step; a virtual circle identification step for identifying, for each of the annual rings extracted in the extraction step, a circle that approximates an annual ring and then a virtual circle that is concentric with the circle and has a same radius as that of the circle; and a determination step for determining a pith position on the butt-end surface based on a degree of overlap between each pair of adjacent virtual circles identified in the virtual circle identification step.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 12
