PURPOSE: To prevent an invasion of water, by providing the cylindrical cover having the communicating part with atmosphere leading to the side of solid electrolyte exposed to the atmosphere in detector for concentration of oxygen in wast gas of motorcar engine and water-resisting cover forming a specific atmosphere connecting part to the outside of said cover.
CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical insulator 7 is mounted on a solid electrolyte 1 having a projection part 1a at an aperture part leading to the atmosphere and a cylindrical cover 16 is provided on its outer circumference. The tip end of the cover 16 is served as a communicating part 16a with atmosphere. An air passage 17 is formed on the outer circumference of the cover 16 and a water-resisting cover 13 is provided. A recess part for positioning 13a is provided to the cover 13. A minute gap is formed as the passage 17 between the covers 13 and 16. The end part of the cover 13 is allowed to contact with caulked part of a housing 5, and the minute gap is formed as a communicating part 13b with atmosphere. The atmosphere is led to the inside of the electrolyte 1 by passing through an aperture 11b of a hollow pipe 11 at the inside of an insulator 7 from the part 13b, the passage 17 and the part 16a. Thus, the electrolyte 1 is not broken with rapid cooling by an invasion of rainwater.
