PURPOSE: To integrate a speed detecting section and a position detecting section of a VTR or the like to enable the detection in a small size and at a high accuracy by magnetic detection of a frequency signal corresponding to the relative moving speed between two objects moving relative thereto and reference position signals indicating relative reference positions depending on the magnetic fields of the signals magnetized on common signal tracks.
CONSTITUTION: A frequency signal FG is induced between output terminals of a first detection coil section and a phase signal PG between output terminals of the second detection coil section by relative movement of an FG magnet 48 and FG coil 51. The use of the FG coil 51 having a wavelength selectivity allows the detection of magnetic fields of signals for the frequency signal and the phase signal on the same signal track in respective detection coil sections of the FG coil 51 by means of an FG magnet. In addition, the frequency signal FG obtained by the first detection coil provides a highly accurate speed information as any error in the magnetization pitch λM of the first magnetized surface of the FG magnet 48 is equalized.
