To prepare a detergent composition for hair excellent in foaming power, conditioning and antiseptic properties and further preservation stability by compounding a specific anionic surfactant with propionic acid or its salt.
This detergent composition for hair is prepared by compounding one or more anionic surfactants having carboxyl group in the molecule with one or more of propionic acid or its salt in combination. A sulfosuccinic acid- based surfactant represented by formula I (R1 is an alkyl, a hydroxyalkyl, etc.; M1 is H, an alkali metal, etc.; A is O-(BO)n1 {B is an alkylene, etc,; n1 is 0-20); either one of X1 and X2 is SO3M2(1/m) and the other is H [M2 is M1; (m) is 1 or 2], etc.} is preferred as the anionic surfactants, A cationic polymeric compound, especially a cationized cellulose represented by formula II {Rcell is a residue of anhydroglucose unit; R2 to R4 are each a substituent group represented by formula III [R5 is an alkyl, etc.; X is a halogen; (n3) and (n5) are each 0-10; (n4) is 0-3]; (n2) is 50-20,000} may further be added to the system.
