To provide a device which is easy to use and accurate, and applies time delay with very small inertia to a light signal.
The device which applies the time delay to the light signal to accurately and continuously delay the light signal in a very narrow dynamic range includes a first phase modulator which receives an input light signal carried on the original center wavelength and applies phase modulation of a first stage to the carrier of the input signal to supply a first intermediate signal carried on changed center wavelength, a delay scatter member which has wavelength dispersion for receiving the first intermediate signal and supplying a second intermediate signal, and a second phase modulator which applies phase modulation of a second stage to the carrier and supplies an output signal carried on the original center wavelength.
