A device 2 to be controlled is controlled by the device control apparatus 1 in accordance with a pattern of a temporal variation about the presence/absence of light reception generated in the light receivers 13, 14 through the approach of the palm 9 to the light receiver 13 or 14 or by the approach of the palm 9 sequentially performed for the light receivers 13 and 14.
