PURPOSE: To detect the working limit of a dust collecting electrode by supervising fine particulate pollutants collected and deposited on a dust collecting electrode in the vicinity of the outlet of an air-flow passage.
CONSTITUTION: The collected fine particles 14 collected on a dust collecting electrode 12 are slowly developed from the upstream side of an airflow W when a dust collector is operated. When the collected fine particles 14 reach out over transparent electro-conductive coated films 18 and 19, the transparency of the coated films 18 and 19 are decreased. Meanwhile a light source 20 and a photodetector 21 are provided respectively to the outside of both dust collecting electrodes 12, and the luminous flux from the light source 20 passes through both transparent electro-conductive coated films 18 and 19 and an opening 17, and reaches the photodetector 21. The luminous flux is accordingly absorbed by the collected fine particles 14 on the electro-conductive coated films 18 and 19, and the quantity of light reaching the photodetector 21 is decreased. The working limit of the dust collecting electrode 12 is detected by comparing said quantity of light with a reference quantity of light.
