To provide a device for fixing a backrest, which is simply and inexpensively manufactured, readily assembled and attains very high strength by improving a backrest fixing device having a frame 4, two armrests 5, a seat part 2 and a backrest 3 provided with a backrest support 6, wherein the seat part 2 and the backrest 3 are divided and not directly coupled to each other to be disposed on a chair 1 separately from each other.
This device is formed of a metallic curved member 7 bent twice so that a short intermediate member 9 bent at 90 degrees is connected to a long leg part 8, and a short terminal end member 10 bent at 90 degrees is connected to the intermediate member 9. A plane of the leg part 8 and the intermediate member 9 and a plane of the intermediate member 9 and the end member 10 are perpendicular to each other, and the long leg part 8 of the metallic curved member 7 can be inserted into an elongated hole 11 of a backrest frame 6, and locked in a lock device 12 in the backrest frame 6 by one rotary motion, and the terminal end member 10 of the metallic curved member 7 can be coupled to the frame 4 of the chair 1.
