Abstract:

To equalige the control operation and control the angle of rotation without shock by buffering the rotational position change of a cam shaft and a volume wheel incorporated therein relatively rotatably by a buffer means.

An inner part 14 is provided on the end of a cam shaft 1 of an internal combustion engine, and three radial webs 16a-16c are extended from the outer peripheral part of the inner part 14 at a distance of 120°, for example. The outer peripheral parts of the webs 16a-16c are brought into close contact with the inside surface of a volume wheel 18 where three webs 22a-22c are similarly extended inward. By the webs 16a-16c, 22a-22c, three volume chambers are respectively portioned into two pressure chambers 24a-24c, 25a-25c. The supply and discharge of a pressure medium to and from the pressure chambers are controlled through a control valve 39 to change the relative angle of the volume wheel 18 and the cam shaft 1, and the change of rotational position is hydraulically buffered by functioning a gap 43 at the tip of the web 16c as a buffer means.
