Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a compact optical amplifier having simple constitution and capable of amplifying a bidirectional signal to be used for a repeater in an optical communication system.
CONSTITUTION: The linking device is provided with a pump laser 102 for generating optical energy of 1st wavelength, an optical coupler means 82 optically coupled with a 1st fiber segment 18 and the laser 102 and coupling the optical energy of 1st wavelength radiated from the laser 102 with optical energy inputted from the segment 18 and a dooped fiber 114 optically connected between the means 82 and a 2nd optical fiber segment 20 to amplify optical energy within a previously determined wavelength spectrum.
