PURPOSE: To read normally even when a magnetic head is stained and sufficient writing is enabled by providing two magnetic heads with different azimuth angles and switching them to the magnetic head different from the latest writing magnetic head.

CONSTITUTION: For writing data to a magnetic card 11, a switch 13 is changed over and reading is performed by the first magnetic head 12a and the second magnetic head 12b through a reading circuit 15. This reading contents are fetched to a control part 18. Then, the propriety of the reading is judged in the control part 18. When the reading is performed by one side or both sides of the magnetic head, then, the latest writing magnetic head of the data read is discriminated. Then, when a discriminated result is discriminated as a first magnetic head 12a, the reading is performed by a second magnetic head. Thus, the reading by the magnetic head with the azimuth angle different from the latest writing magnetic head is attained.
