PURPOSE: To facilitate the working of a small diameter tube and the examination of a device by directly sustaining the thrust load to be generated in working the groove by a rotary head through a working roll.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of back-up rolls which are supported by shafts 3 and rotated while being revolved on the circular orbit are provided on a rotary head 2 arranged on the outer circumferential part of a tube 1 to be worked. In addition, a plurality of working rolls 5 are brought into external contact with the back-up rolls 4 on the inner side, and a roll end part 5A is supported by the rotary head 2 in a point-contact manner, and arranged in a rotating manner. The working rolls 5 are subjected to the rotating force of the back-up rolls 4 to be rotated and revolved and the diameter of the part to be worked of the tube 1 to be worked is reduced. The tube 1 to be worked is advanced in the axial direction in association with this reduction of the diameter, and a floating plug 6 is rotated to form a groove 11 in the inner surface. The thrust load to be generated on the working rolls 5 is sustained by the rotary head 2 from the roll end part 5A without using the thrust bearing.
