PURPOSE: To automate the measurement with the measurement of the area rate of a picture pattern being maintained at high accuracy, by conveying a printing plate in one direction by rollers, scanning laser light in the direction perpendicular to the conveying direction, thereby obtaining the area rate of the picture pattern.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of printing plates W to be measured are stocked in a truck 9. The printing plates are stacked on a printing plate stacking surface 98 of the truck 91. The position of the printing plate at the highest layer is set so that the plate is absorbed by an undulating arm 82. The undulating arm 82 is moved in the counterclockwise direction, and the printing plate W is mounted on the upper surface of a conveying unit 2. The plate is conveyed in the direction of a measuring unit 1 by the driving of a conveyer belt. Then, the printing plate W is held and conveyed by conveying rollers 16W23 to a conveying unit 3. At this time, laser light from a laser light oscillator 31 is sequentially scanned in the direction perpendicular to the conveying direction. The reflected light from the printing plate W is received by a photoelectric transducer 34, and transduced into an electric signal. Then the signal is imparted to an operating device, and the area rate of the picture pattern for every width unit of an ink key is memorized.
